Ms. Seiger maintains an active private studio at home and is working with the newly-formed North Carolina Opera to continue her work in the company's educational outreach program which she began with Capital Opera. Her most exciting project on that front is the commissioning of a new children's opera by Justine F. Chen titled, The Dragon. Her first year of teaching at NCSU was quite a whirlwind. Ms. Seiger was pleased to sing with members of the student choirs as a soloist on two of the Choral Concerts during the fall semester. Her private students represent a diverse array of backgrounds and majors, but are united by their love for music and their desire to pursue the music minor as part of their overall degree program. It is this enthusiasm that Ms. Seiger enjoys most in her work with them. Several of these students participated in the February auditions of the NC chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing with one of them earning third place in her category and moving on to the Regional level of auditions. NCSU's voice students were also represented at the inaugural Singin' on Broadway workshop hosted by Duke University's School of Music. The year concluded with three students completing their course of vocal study by presenting recitals. Much of this recital is dedicated to the memory of Fredric W. (Fritz) Moses (1942-2009), the teacher most influential in the development of Ms. Seiger's singing technique and pedagogic ideology. City centers across the U.S. were deciphering what good design was, and architects and product designers were redefining what homes and objects looked like. Although common in Los Angeles, New York and Chicago, designers broke the norm when they decided to follow Henry Kamphoefner to the unlikely design hub of Raleigh, North Carolina. It was here that some of the worlds greatest designers of this period found themselves teaching or lecturing at the newly formed School of Design at North Carolina State University. In this exhibition, the Gregg Museum will show excellent examples of mid-century modern furniture, textiles, ceramics and design through the capsule of a modernist home and tell the story of how the modern design movement made its way into North Carolina. Gorsline was a keen observer and his work demonstrates strong abstract qualities, which mirror the Cubism avant-garde movement of the 20th century. He fragments the bodies of musicians and athletes, landscapes and still lifes to give the viewer a sense of movement. Gorsline painted his subjects in a way that implied that a sequence of events could be taking place simultaneously, while events that occurred simultaneously could be shown as sequences (he called this sequential simultaneity).
